WISEWOMAN
(Well-Integrated Screening and Evaluation
for Women Across the Nation) is a cardiovascular
disease (CVD) prevention program for underserved and underinsured
women ages 40 to 64. It provides screening for CVD risk factors,
lifestyle counseling to improve diet and physical activity, and
clinical referral and follow-up services. Women who participate
in WISEWOMAN also receive breast and cervical cancer screening
through the National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection
Program. WISEWOMAN is funded by the Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention and is currently in nine states. North Carolina
has been a part of the WISEWOMAN program since its inception in
1995.
