HPDP to host 2009-2010 CBPR Seminar Series

The UNC Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention, in collaboration with the Carolina Center for Public Service and the UNC Kellogg Health Scholars program, is excited to host another year of CBPR Seminar Series. This year’s theme is Connecting Communities, Food, and Research.
The seminars will focus on how research related to food and healthy eating has incorporated community partnerships. Students , faculty and community members are invited to each seminar. All seminars are the fourth Monday of each month from 3:30 - 5:00.
Dr. Rudi Colloredo-Mansfeld, Assistant Professor in the Anthropology Department will host the first seminar on October 26, 2009.
The Role of “Finding Out” in Community-University Research Partnerships: Lessons from Iowa, Ecuador, and North Carolina will discuss how lessons learned in a sustainable agriculture project in Iowa were applied to research in the Ecuadorian Andes on the future of small-town textile economies. Dr. Collerdo-Mansfeld will also discuss how research’s core task of discovery and collaborative research designs can both help and hinder partnerships.

All seminars will be at the UNC Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention, which is located at 1700 MLK Jr Blvd, Room 236. All university parking passes are honored at this location.
