Research at HPDP

Our Research Priorities

Hope Works

HPDP engages in applied research, developing and testing new ways to confront the most pressing health problems facing our society. We specialize in community-based participatory research (CBPR) methods which create interventions that are grounded in community values and implemented, evaluated, and disseminated with community guidance and involvement. Our methods, tools, and materials are designed, tested, and culturally adapted for use by groups that are disproportionately affected by poor health. The priority areas for HPDP currently include:

  • Obesity prevention and control
  • Healthy aging
  • Cancer, cardiovascular disease, and stroke prevention
  • HIV/AIDS and STD prevention
  • Social and economic determinants of health
  • Research translation and dissemination
  • Sustainable food systems
